It's such a simple question, but the answer is so detailed. My parents had gotten divorced when I turned twelve and just entering middle school. It wasn't an easy time for an adolescent. I had occaisionally heard a song called "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)" sung by a new band called the Backstreet Boys. It was a catchy song, but at that time it made me think of my parents and the hurt they caused each other. So, it wasn't a favorite of mine until 1998 when I was at Target and I saw the Backstreet Boys first US album. I bought it and soon, I was hooked. Their music was uplifting and when I was feeling sad, angry or just having a bad day, they cheered me up.
As I got older, my love for the five amazing men and their music grew. I was not able to see the Millennium concert, which would be disappointing for anyone. But when Black & Blue came out, I was finally able to get tickets. Second row, right in the center of the arena. It was one of the most amazing nights of my life! I saw them two other times. The Never Gone personal tour at Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, WI and then the world tour back in Minneapolis, MN where I had seen them the first time. That was the concert where I was actually able to get five feet away from Brian. It's so weird how you almost hold them up on a pedestal and then when you see them in the flesh... they're people just like everyone else. A fellow fan helped me get Brian's autograph and that is something I will always remember.
I just love how the Boys love us, the fans, and constantly thank us. I mean they're right. Without the fans, there would be no Backstreet Boys. I think it's rare, to have a band thank their fans as much as they do through speeches, contests and songs dedicated to everyone.
When both of my grandfathers died, it was their music that helped me grieve. It still does, because I don't think anyone ever gets over the death of a loved one. And when I was having a fight with my mother or step-dad, the Boys were there to help. Their music made me see that the world isn't always cold or angry. It can be happy. It can be goofy, funny, brilliant and so much more.
But, all I can say is... without the Backstreet Boys, I wouldn't be here. They helped me through so many hard times in my life and they are still doing it to this day. I just hope that one day I can meet all of them and thank them for everything.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
I haven't been around the Backstreet World for some time due to lack of computer access. But now I can get online and last night, I went to my friends MySpace and heard a song. Of course, right away I knew it was the Boys. I listened to the whole thing and I was FLOORED. Tears in my eyes and everything! I found the video on YouTube and was blown away even more! It's an amazing song and I can't wait for the album to come out next month.
