The Quintessential BSB Album

From the moment I Want It That Way hit the airwaves in April of 1999, this album was undeniable. Having one of the universe's perfect pop songs as a lead single really couldn't hurt, but when May 18th, 1999 finally arrived, the Backstreet Boys' sophomore effort Millennium went gold in a day, platinum in a week, and left the industry astounded. The album broke records no one had expected, and now the world was forced to take notice of a group it had been trying to dismiss.

With Millennium, the Backstreet Boys (with help from Max Martin) hit their melodic acme, packaging brilliant hooks in beautifully textured soundscapes that rewarded listeners for repeat spins. The main singles (I Want It That Way, Larger Than Life, Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely) were, of course, impeccably produced, but even farther back into the album, where most discs of this period would have degenerated to filler, the music was still crisp. From the seduction of No One Else Comes Close to the plaintive heartache of Don't Wanna Lose You Now, this album never let you down.
