hey ya'll this is my fanfic! read it if u want!
Ch. 1:
"mom! mom! mom!" i cried.
"Summer! Summer! Summer!" my mom cried back. i knew she was making fun of me.
i ran down the stairs. "i just went onto the official backstreet boys website and guess what!"
"ummmm...they're fans broke into their hotel room and stole all of their shoes" she guessed.
"what?"
"never mind."
"well anyway, i was just on their site and the backstreet boys are coming to Seattle in two months. and i was hoping u could get front row seats."
"sorry Summer but no can do. we're running low on money at the moment and just can't afford tickets. we got bills to pay and stuff."
"but mom" i whined. "you know how much i luv the backstreet boys.
"yes. but we just can' t afford it right now."
"this isn't fair!"
"well if u want it bad enough go get ur own money."
"heello mother! im only 14 i can't get a job."
"you can think of something. your young. be creative." she said.
"ugh! what am i supposed to do? build a lemonade stand?"
"i guess...it might work."
"but i don't even know how to make lemonade" i cried.
"then google it. your always on that contraption anyway."
"its called a computer and...AUGH! ur not being fair."
"well life isn't fair honey" my mom said and shooed me away.
i ran upstairs. what am i going to do, i thought? after awhile i went on my computer and googled "how to make lemonade"

chapter 10:
"NO! NO! NO!" shouted MacKenzie.
"oh come on...pleeeease!" i said.
"NO! Under no circumstances am i going to be singing a Backstreet Boys' song!"
"yeah, but it's not just an ordinary Backstreet Boys' song, it's Backstreet's Back and we can do all sorts of dance moves!"
i was at MacKenzie's house and we were disagreeing on what song to sing on Fathers Day. she wanted to sing "All Around Me" by Flyleaf, which i wouldn't have had a problem with, but i couldn't sing "Backstreet's Back" by myself and this would be the only time to be able to sing it.
"if u sing this one song for me, i promise to quit singing at 'Chopstix'!"
"are u serious?" she asked, a bit astonished.
"yeah, the concert tickets are coming out tomorrow and i have plenty of money to pay for them, so i wouldn't need a job anymore."
she sighed. i could tell she was really thinking about it. she slammed her hands on her bed and said, "fine." then we shooked on it.
"but i have to tell you something." MacKenzie said.
"okay."
"i do lip sync. but only because i don't have enough lung power to sing live." she looked like she was about to cry.
"hey" i said. i went over to her and hugged her. "it's alright. we're just going to have to work you extra hard, okay?"
she smiled up at me. "okay." i felt like i was talking to a little kid.
***
the next day, i rode my bike to Fred Meyer when it opened so i could be first in line to get tickets. when i got there, there were 5 people already waiting to get tickets.
"oh my gosh!" i said breathlessly. "i can't wait to get tickets!"
"i know." said the woman in front of me. she looked like she was about 23. "i'm so excited!"
"i hope i get good tickets."
"yeah me too, and there's a lot of people i know that are getting tickets elsewhere."
"OH! pleaseohpleaseohplease let me get tickets! front stage ones too!"
"if you want, you can go ahead of me. i've already seen the Backstreet Boys 3 times."
"really?"
"really, really."
"oh thanks! your a star! i will never forget this!"
"hey it's no problem, i just want to hear them, i don't care if i'm in the back at all."
we had a long wait. ticketmaster didn't open up until 10:00 o'clock. by the time ticketmaster did open, there was a huge line of about 57 people. "thank god i came early."
when it was my turn to get tickets, i said, "three tickets to the Backstreet Boys concert, pleasse."
"and where would u like to sit?" asked the bored looking teenager.
"the closest i can get!"
"okay you'll be sitting..."
and i will post more soon!

ch. 9:
at school the next day, people were coming up to me and congratulated me. "thanks" was all i could reply back, but with the biggest grin in the whole wide world.
MacKenzie wasn't with a bunch of people that day, only her best friend, Taylor, hung out with her. i felt kind of sorry for her. i just couldn't help it.
***
when i went into Chopstix the next night, MacKenzie's uncle came up to me. "i have a question for you" he said.
"Okay."
"can you and MacKenzie sing a song together on Father's Day? i have a lot of people signed up to come and i think that between the two of you, my restaurant would be a great success."
"i don't know..." i was a bit weary of the idea, i mean she has made my life dificult.
"oh please!" he practically begged. "MacKenzie said she'd do it, if you do it."
i sighed..."i guess."
the owner dropped down on his hands and knees and hugged my legs. "thank you! thank you! thank you!"
i looked down at him. he seemed embarrassed and got up. "sorry about that."
"it's okay."
he cleared his throat and said "okay so go to the bathroom and fix yourself up before i open up, then lets get this show on the road!"
***
i was onstage waiting for Hannah Montana's "Who Said" song to come on. there were quite a lot of people from what i could see. "hey it's okay, your a really good singer" i said to myself.
the music went and i took a sigh. then i sang "i'm more than just. your average girl. i like to turn me up. and show the world. oh yeah! cuz some can talk the talk. but this girl just wants to rock. i'm individual. i'm not like anyone.
"i can be glamorous just like you see in all the magazines. i can be cool as ice. or anything i want to be.
"who said. who said. i can't be super man. i say. i say. that i know i can. who said? who said? i won't be president? i say. i say. you ain't seen nothing yet."
***
when the store finally closed for the night i felt like i accomplished something. after every song, all the people would clap and some even hollored! no one left because they were so into what i was singing. it was really funny when there were people trying to come in but couldn't since it was already so jammed packed. nobody even cared that it was hot.
i was in the bathroom rubbing off my make-up when Mr. Orange came in and said people were waiting outside for me.
"what?"
"yeah, they want to talk to you. they want to know you before you become famous."
"ummm sure."
so i walked out of the store. people were waiting there and they all clapped for me.
"you were magnificent." and other compliments like that came from everybody. i just smiled and said thank you. it was like i was in a FAIRY TALE.

ch. 8:
"...acually there's two winners, it's a tie! between MacKenzie Rivers and..."
i started to bite my fingernails. please oh please oh please oh please... "Summer Adams!" i screamed and both me and Kelsea jumped up and started hugging each other and jumping up and down. then we looked around...Taylor and MacKenzie were also hugging each other, but no one else was. we stopped. i shouldn't have done that, i thought. i should have held my exitement.
the losing girls grabbed their stuff and left. one girl had hung back. i believe her name was Amy.
"hey" she said to me.
"hi" i said.
"look, i know that i speak for all of us girls, we're glad that we lost to a girl who was really good."
"yeah but u lost to MacKenzie too."
"ha. well, i know everyone was cheering for her just because they know that she can make their lives hell. u and ur friend got nuts to talk to her like that."
"we don't take crap from nobody" Kelsea said.
Amy laughed softly. "yeah, well, if u did, u both could fit in."
"no because we like the Backstreet Boys" i said.
"yeah, well, good job out there."
"you too."
"not good enough." she left.
Kelsea and i left after we got our schedules. MacKenzie would be starting the next day, and i would start and Wednesday. so i had Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. MacKenzie had Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. the store was closed on Sunday.
"god, she only got this thing because he's her uncle" Kelsea said through clenched teeth.
"hey, let's be positive here, at least i won too."
"true, true."
"i am always right" i said w/ a grin.
Kelsea laughed and looped her arm through mine. "wow you were so good" she gushed. "i couldn't believe that u were my friend up there."
"and now i can go see the Backstreet Boys!"
"yeah!...hey...when everybody hears about this, MacKenzie won't be so popular anymore. she's a cheater and she should have lost to a loser. everyone will know that she got this job bcuz of her uncle."
"don't start trouble Kelsea."
she sighed. "fine...but people will find out anyway."
after awhile, we got to the street that splits us up. "i'll see you tommorrow" Kelsea said.
"kay bye!"
i started walking to my house. i called my mom. after the fourth ring she picked up. "hello" she replied breathlessly.
"hey mom" i said.
"honey im really busy" she said.
"what else is new" i mumbled.
"what?"
"nothing. so...are u coming home tonight?"
"no."
"how about tommorrow?"
"i don't think so, someone called in at the last minute."
"mom ur never home!"
"sorry honey, but it's my job."
"well, ur job stinks." i hung up. i was waiting for mom to call back, but she never did.
i ran the rest of the way home and wrote a letter to Oprah.

ch. 7:
what we had to do was give our name, how old we were, and what song we were singing to Mr. Orange before we started.
he alled out people starting from the front row. the first few were decent. then towards me and MacKenzie it got worse. one of them even sounded like a bird, screeching and everything! then MacKenzie was called on.
"hey uncle Clark" she said in the mic.
"how's my little angel" "Clark" asked.
"good!"
"now get started...we don't have all day."
"kay!" she gave the kid standing next to the karoake machine her disc. "number 11" she said. she went back towards the mic. "hi, my name is MacKenzie Rivers, i'm 14 years old, and im singing "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavine."
Taylor clapped. she was the only one.
"hey! hey! you! you! I don't like your girlfriend" MacKenzie started. she looked so comfortable up there. how can i win, i asked myself.
halfway through the song, i could hear murmers of approvement. i sighed. "gosh" whispered Kelsea through clenched teeth. "can't they tell she's lip-syncing?"
i looked closer. Yeah! she was! MacKenzie forgot to put the mic. to her mouth just then and was still singing...but she kept on like nothing happened. and yet no one else seemed to notice. plus it doesn't sound like Avril. maybe a friend sang it for her?
she finished and there was a louder cheer than what they gave the other girls.
"next" Mr. Orange said.
i took a deep breathe and got up. once i started walking i heard MacKenzie whisper, "nerd alert! nerd alert!" no one laughed. Thank God, i thought.
i went onstage and gave the guy the karoake c.d. i picked out. "number 1 please" i said.
MacKenzie still kept going. "she's probably gonna sing a Backstreet Boys' song" i heard her say. that made them all laugh.
"quiet everyone" Mr. Orange shouted.
when everyoe was quiet, i said, "my name is Summer Adams, i'm 14 years old, adn i am singing "best of both worlds" by Hannah Montana." there were a few giggles but not many.
the music played i started "you get the limo out front. oooo. hottest styles, everyshoe, every color. yeah when your famous it can be kind of fun. it's really you but no one ever discovers. in some ways you just like all you friends. but onstage your a star!
"you get the best of both worlds. chill it out take it slow. then you rock out the show. you get the best of both worlds. mix it all together. and you know that it's the best of both worlds."
i felt really comfortbale on that stage...the warm lights were hitting me and helping my chill. i couldn't see anyone unless i looked hard. i was dancing too, and it was fun. and i could hear all the girls out there - they were clapping along to the beat. for me, of all people!
when i was done i gave a bow to all the clapping girls. then i heard her. "god that sucked."
"totally" Taylor said.
"no one spoke. i suddenly felt naked onstage and was about to cry. then Kelsea spoke. "your just jealous that she's better than you, you lip-syncer."
i focused and saw MacKenzie glaring at Kelsea. the "Clark" stepped in. "give me a few minutes to decide who gets to sing for Chopstix. talk to one another...nicely."
i walked off the stage towards Kelsea. "you wanna see how you did" she asked when i got there.
"sure" i said numbley, i had forgotten that she was going to video-tape me.
she pushed the replay button. my voice rang out and i could see me dancing. the camera was shaking, from dancing Kelsea told me. i could hear everyone clapping along too.
when it was over, Kelsea asked "so, what'd ya think?"
"i was pretty good" i replied.
"stop being modest, you were awesome!"
i blushed. "Clark" went up to the stage, we all quieted. "now this was a tough decision, but i want to thank all of u who came out. now the winner is..."

ch. 6:
after school, Kelsea and i walked down to Chopstix; the restaurant was on the other side of town. Kelsea was still steamed about MacKenzie.
"who duz she think she is? fricken...fricken...ugh! i can't even think straight!"
Kelsea, please calm down," i said.
"sorry" she replied.
"im mad too. but we can't let her get to us!"
she nodded. "right. besides you going to beat her!"
i sighed. "im really nervous."
she put her arm through mine. "hey, chill. everything will be alright."
this time i nodded. "you right!"
"besides, you'd be crapping your pants if you found out i was video-taping you," Kelsea said. her eyes got real wide. "oops."
i gave a weird squek. "no way" i said. i started running for it, but Kelsea grabbed my backpack.
"no, you are not gonna quit."
after a few more minutes of pulling and tugging, i gave up. "fine," is aid. but Kelsea still didn't trust me; she helo on to my backpack till we got there.
we got inside and saw a lot of girls waiting and chatting. MacKenzie one of them, with Taylor. Taylor's head swirved toward the noise of the bell. she saw us and gave me a big smile. MacKenzie pinched her. she turned back around.
a man came up to the small stage, big enough to fit a drumset on it, and nothing else. "so much for dancing" i whispered to Kelsea. she giggled.
"hello ladies" the guy said. he was a chubby man with a mustache; he looked like he was in his mid-thirties. he wore an odd-looking suit; it was 2 times too big for him and it was orange. he reminded me of the fruit. "welcome to my restaurant. we have lots of karoake c.d.s. Sing whatever u want as long as it's not hardcore rock or rap -" a few girls left. he ignored them. "now everyone grab a karoake c.d."
we all got up and grabbed one. except MacKenzie. she was saying that she already had one. i got a Hannah Montana one. "now lets get started" Mr. Orange (i gave him a nickname) said. he clapped his hands.
P.S. SORRY THIS ONE IS SO SHORT!!!

okay okay...i got some great ideas for this one:
ch. 5:
Kelsea and i were at our lockers before 1st period when we heard MacKenzie, who always thought the world revolved around her. "...at Chopstix today."
no way, i thought.
"so what times are the try - outs" Taylor asked her.
"i don't know...all i know is i already got this thing in the bag."
"how" Sara asked.
"because my uncle is the owner of the restaraunt."
"so you think u can sing" Kelsea snapped out at her.
MacKenzie turned around from her clique. "oh it's u" she said with a sneer.
i pinched Kelsea to remind her not to tell anyone what i was doing. she ignored me. "yeah it's us. and u know what, i bet u can't sing. i bet ur fibbing."
"u obviously havn't heard me" she replied, twisting her hair on her finger.
"well we havn't" Taylor said. "i didn't even know u were a singer."
"and what do u need the money for" Kelsea asked. "ur so rich...ohhhh! u probably payed ur rich daddy to win."
"no" she said icily. "and how do u know about the singing auditions?"
i pinched her again to remind her...again. "we saw it on a flyer."
"Summer! u should try out" Taylor almost yelled. "u are such a good singer...plus u need the money for that concert ur going to."
"no" i mumbled.
MacKenzie glared at Taylor. "you've heard her sing? and u liked it? u obviously have bad taste."
"umm...i was joking. she sounded like a....like a starving walrus."
MacKenzie turned to walk away. "i'll be at the try-outs, plz. come" Taylor whispored in my ear. and with that she followed MacKenzie.
"i can't wait till u beat her" Kelsea said.
"but she said that her uncle -"
"she's lying" Kelsea interupted. i became quiet, i knew when to stop talking when Kelsea was mad.
***
at lunch i had a hard time eating. i was having second thoughts. i can't do this, i thought over and over again. MacKenzie said she's good. she's probably better than me. i was nervous, yeah. but i was more scared. what if MacKenzie tries to embarrass me onstage?
"hey" a voice said, interupting my thoughts. i looked up.
it was my favorite teacher, Mrs. Samoni. "hi Mrs. Samoni." she teaches English, my favorite subject.
"i just wanted to congradulate u on ur test today. u missed only 2 problems."
under normal circumstances i would have been proud, but not today. "thanks" i mumbled.
"hey what's wrong" Mrs. Samoni asked. she always knew when a student was down.
"nothing, just...stuff."
she laughed. "me too."
i laughed. "well, u see..." i don't know why i was going to tell her this. "im trying to get tickets to the Backstreet Boys concert. my mom says we're behind on bills so she can't pay. i've been making my own money; i have $66, and the tickets are really expensive. so there's this singing audition today and im really scared. especially when MacKenzie says she's gonna win because her uncle runs the place. and what if she tries to embarrass me up there? it's bad enough that she duz it at school."
"ohhhh...well, don't worry. what Kelsea tells me is that u got some voice. im gonna try to make it to encourage u so u don't get nervous."
"thanks" i said, with fake cheer. all i needed is my teacher there.
"no problem" Mrs. Samoni said, buying it. "bye."
"bye."

sorry it took so long.
ch. 4:
On Saturday at 11:30 Kelsea and I walked down to the park. i shot around for a few minutes to warm up. then somone came.
"hello" i said.
"are u the girl who needs to make money" the guy asked.
"yes my name is Summer" i told him.
"well, i'll give u a dollar for every lay-up you make in one minute."
"sure" i said.
he timed me...i made 15, which is really good for one minute. "15 dollars" i said. he gave Kelsea the money and left.
not that many people showed up afterward. i only made 50 dollars. the grand total was $66.
***
"oh come on Summer, that wasn't that bad" Kelsea said when we got back to my house.
"i only have 66 dollars" i said, sulking.
"that's more than u would have made if u did 2 weeks of the lemonade stand."
"true" i said. "but i have to figure something else out."
"lets go walk around and see what's out there" Kelsea said.
"not now" i said.
"okay tomorrow then."
***
the next day we walked around to see if anyone had notices of jobs or something for 14 year olds.
"hey look at this Summer" Kelsea said after what felt like 3 hours of walking around.
i came over. there was a notice on a window of the candy shop. it read:
AUDITIONS FOR A SINGER
AT THE CHOPSTIX RESTARAUNT
14 - 18 YEAR OLDS
MONDAY AT 4:00 P.M.
$7.95 PER SONG
"no way" i said.
"but ur a really good singer" Kelsea said. "i've heard u."
"when" i asked, embarrassed.
"oh...umm...a few weeks ago, u were singing in the shower."
"oh god" i mumbled.
"come on please" Kelsea said. "this could be ur big break."
"to become a singer" i asked, exhasperated.
"well, yeah."
"are u okay? are u on crack?"
"no, ur good enough to nail that audition. and it pays per song, which u will get enough money to buy the tickets, plus extras to get a shirt or something."
that did it. "okay okay, but don't tell anyone im doing this because if i dont' get it, i don't want people to laugh at me."
"promise" Kelsea said. and then we did our secret "promise" handshake...we slapped our hands together and crossed our fingers.

ch. 3:
"so how much money did u make" Kelsea asked me the next day at lunch, but i didn't feel like eating anything.
"6 dollars" i said pathetically. "at this rate i won't be able to make enough money for the concert."
"well lets see what else u can do."
we thought...and thought...and thought...
"i can't think of anything" i yelled out in frutstration.
"okay...well lets see...what are u good at" Kelsea asked.
"ummm basketball" i replied.
"yeah ur good at that!"
"thanks" i said.
"we can have ppl put bets on u...like how many free throws u can make in a row or something."
"im liking it..."
***
P.E. is my last period and i was running late to it. i wasn't in any rush to go bcuz i don't like running.
i was changing rly slowly and just started singing. "i close the door. like so many times. so many times before..."
"wow ur rly good" someone said from behind me.
i wizzed around and saw Taylor. "is that a joke" i asked, being on my gaurd.
"no! rly it's not" she said.
"...thanks, i guess."
"look i know im not nice and u probably don't even believe me and i don't blame u, but u R good. seriously." she put her hand in the air to prove her point. "honest."
"well thanks...i wasn't rly trying."
"oh well...i should go before McKenzie sees me talking to u" she said and left.
of course, i thought.
***
after school Kelsea and i went to my house. she made some posters to put on my lemonade stand. so when ppl came they could grab some.
"what do they say" i asked her.
"basically what we talked about today at lunch. they're going to put bets on u to see how many free-throws, lay-ins, and 3 pointers u can make in a row. they're gonna give me the money to give to u afterwards. and it's on Saturday from noon to 3:00."
"oh okay."
so we waited for some ppl. i guess some kind of word got around that my lemonade was good since more ppl came this time and i got a grand total of $10.
i sighed. "i hope this basketball thing will work. i need money!"

nobody like it? it's only the first chapter!
ch. 2:
the next day i went to school very glum. sure it was june and people will be thursty but i just did not want to make a lemonade stand!
at lunch my best friend, kelsea, asked me what was wrong. she and i are rly close, we know everything about each other, mainly cuz we have so much in common. so when one of us is feeling low or something we know it. and we try and help.
i sighed, being a drama queen is what people know me to do best. "oh nothing."
"come on Summer! i'm not stupid" she said.
"well yesterday i found out that the backstreet boys are coming in a couple of months to perform at the key arena, but my mom isn't able to afford tickets."
"what about, like, the very back seats? surely she can pay for those."
"yes" i said. "but i don't want to go all the way there to see them perform and not get somewhere close. we talked about that at dinner last night."
"so what are you going to do?"
"i don't know. my mom said a lemonade stand would do, but i don't know. like people make those to get small change. im trying to make about 400 dollars."
"oh wow" kelsea said.
"yeah, and i rly want u to come too, but i do need an adult and i rly don't think that i can go to it w/o one."
"well...i do like them, but it wouldn't kill me not to go."
"well it duz to me" i said.
"i think you'll figure something out. look in the paper! they have those jobs."
"yeah, but im only 14" i said.
"but ur turning 15 next week. just tell them that ur older."
i gaped at my friend.
"what" asked kelsea."
"i can't believe u, miss goody-two shoes, just said to do that."
"well" she said. "hanging out w/ u has made me more daring."
i smiled at her. "well, im glad."
***
when i got home that night i started to make lemonade. "god i can't believe im doing this" i said.
my mom wasn't there - she was at work - so i had to do everything.
"why do we even have lemons" i asked to myself. i think im going crazy, i thought.
when i was done making the lemonade, i grabbed a small table and put it outside. then i grabbed a chair and put it behind the table. i went back in to look for paper cups. i found some in the laundry room ( my mom works so much that she has no clue where to put things). then i grabbed the lemonade and the paper cups and went outside.
"im ready for customers" i said, sitting down.
five minutes went by w/o anyone coming. "oh my god! this is so boring" i cried.
i then went inside to grab my ipod. i went back outside. i sat down and started listening to jesse mccartney.
then someone came along! a biker! he road past my lemonade stand saying "u might want a sign up!"
huh? i thought. then i realized what he was saying! a sign for ppl to know what's going on! i laughed and went inside to grab a poster board. it was supposed to be for a school project but this was more important.
i wrote, w/ a black marker, in big handwriting: LEMONADE STAND! $2 A CUP! i put it up in front of the table.
then i saw ppl walking my way. i put on a smile. when they got closer, my smile turned upside down. it was McKenzie, the snobbiest girl at school, with her possy: Sara, Meagan, Addie, and her best friend, Taylor. and her boy friend, Hayden
they walked by the stand. i glared at them and if glares could kill they'd be long gone.
they started to laugh at my stand. "oh how sad" McKenzie said.
"definatly" said Taylor, who always agrees with her.
"im trying to earn money" i said.
"yeah cuz ur poor" Meagan said.
"well i can't help it if i have a single mom."
"out of curiosity, what are u raising money for" Addie asked.
"a concert" i replied.
"probably a dopey backstreet boy concert" McKenzie said.
"so" i asked.
"oh my god u were right!" Taylor said.
they laughed and walked away from me, exept for Sara.
"just leave me alone" i said.
"no! i think its cool! and don't listen to them, they're mean" Sara said.
"then why do u hang out w/ them" i asked her.
"well...this might be shallow but u know how school is" she replied.
"yeah."
"i'd like to buy one so i can help u with the concert" Sara said. she handed me $2.
"thanks" i said. smiling i gave her a cup.
"hey this is really good."
"thanks" i said again.
"Sara" McKenzie yelled from down the street. "what are u doing?"
"gotta go" Sara told me.
"ok" i said.
