If i'm honest I wasn’t always a big fan of The Backstreet Boys. I did like their music, but since I’m from Ireland I grew up with Irish and English boybands, like Boyzone, Westlife and Take That. But I remember getting ‘Millennium’ on tape as a present and I loved it. But unfortunately I gave it to my friend and never got it back! Then they came out with ‘Black and Blue’. I loved the singles that they released, so I bought the c.d. I listened to it a couple of times and I didn’t think much of it so it got pushed to the back of my c.d collection and forgotten about.
Then the whole thing with AJ going into rehab happened and one day I turned on Oprah, and there he was talking about his drug and alcohol addiction. I remember watching it and thinking how much respect and admiration I had for him in the way he turned his life around and was so open and honest about everything. Then the rest of the boys came on and I had tears in my eyes, it was sooo moving. The whole interview was brilliant and it showed what a strong bond they all shared, it was like nothing could break it. So then I started listening to ‘Black and Blue’ again, and I fell in love with it. I still can't believe I never noticed how good it was before.
By now I was a proper fan. I even went out and bought ‘Millennium’ again, on c.d this time. I was sooo excited when they came out with ‘Never Gone’. I had it ordered from the net and I saw it in a shop. Of course I bought it so now I have two copies!! I also bought tickets to the concert, but unfortunately, when the time came I couldn’t go. I was really disappointed.
My life has changed a lot in the last few months. I moved away from home to go to college and I'm finding it really hard settling in and i'm really homesick. But the Backstreets Boys have really helped me get through it. I listen to 'Unbreakable' every night before I go to sleep and they make me feel less alone. It is honestly one of my favourite albums ever. Reminds me a lot of B&B. Only good music can affect you like that. They have such amazing harmonies that give me goosebumps!
What sets them apart from other boybands, besides their amazing vocals, is the boys themselves. I think it's so inspiring the way they care about each other and look after each other. They've all had their ups and downs through the years but they've come out of it together, stronger and better than ever. There isn't any egos in the group and they are passionate about what they do. The biggest thing for me is that I can relate to their songs. It feels like they are talking about my life, and that is what truly connects an artist to their fans. It might've taken me a while to become a die hard fan, he journey was so worth to get to my destination! I'm just so happy that they're still around for me to enjoy it, cos I don't know how i'd get through if I didn't have them right now...
If anyone would like to add me to their friends then please do, I would love to hear from you. In the meantime...KTBPA xxx
