Unmistakably Backstreet

That’s what the album is when it starts off. The smooth harmonies of the introduction that make you melt and take you back to the first time you ever heard the Backstreet sound. You can imagine how many females are going to scream and pass out, if they ever hear it in concert.

However, besides the introduction and the up beat tracks on the new Backstreet Boys album, “Unbreakable”, I felt that the rest of the album seemed too familiar; like they had done it before. With the slower ballad tracks it is almost “heard one Backstreet song heard them all”. It’s great that it is unmistakably a Backstreet Boys album, but I did expect a fair bit more from them, rather than the same “reliable” formats.

The biggest risk they took on the album would have to be “Treat Me Right”, written by JC Chasez (Nsync) and AJ McLean. It is a catchy track with a great hook, but at parts it seems a bit mixed up and has a very Nsync feeling to it.

The album is packed with good old “power ballads”, like those found on the 2005 Backstreet Boys album, “Never Gone”. And I have to agree with the Rolling Stones review written by Christian Hoard, “Trouble Is” would do well on a country radio station.

Random thoughts while listening…
- Did they use Kevin in the intro? I know they didn’t, but you could swear he was in there.
- “Everything But Mine” should be the second single, rather than “Helpless When She Smiles”. It would crank in the clubs.
- In…consolable or complete? They sound too similar.
- “Any Other Way” is interesting. Reminds me of the Black & Blue album. And is a bit different to what I thought it was going to sound like.
- “One In A Million” and “Panic” are both pimpin track. They are those tracks that you find yourself rocking out to.
- And we will just skip past all of the slow ballads aye?

If you a Backstreet fan and don’t have the “Unbreakable” album you should go out and buy it. You may not like all the tracks but there is enough to like about it to justify buying it. And like Tasha said in her BlowOut (on the Bouncing Off The Walls website), if you once were a Backstreet fan I think you will like this album as it holds a lot of similarities with past albums.
